Hi, I’m Joshua Mathew, a Social Service Worker student from Durham College. I believe authenticity is one of the most valuable qualities a person can have. I live by the mantra “be yourself & be authentic”. Being true to who we are allows us to build genuine relationships, foster trust, and create spaces where everyone feels accepted. Everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and valued for who they are, and I strive to approach every interaction with empathy, respect, and authenticity.
As a social service worker placement student with Barnes Management Group, supporting initiatives through Pathways to Caring Communities (PCC), I contribute to refugee sponsorship and settlement efforts by advocating for clients to community organizations & agencies and helping connect them with sponsorship opportunities. I inquire about private sponsorship availability for my clients by connecting with partner organizations regarding Sponsorship Agreement Holder availability. I facilitate weekly group meetings and one-on-one meetings with international refugees to provide emotional support and information about refugee scholar resources and settlement programs in Canada. I also facilitate & conduct virtual interviews as part of the Refugee Storytelling Initiative to bring forth more awareness to the lives of refugees around the world.
Through my work, I am committed to helping people feel supported and empowered and therefore helping them be who they truly are. Their most authentic selves.
